GILLIS, Ray ‘Muns’

We are saddened to announce the passing of our father and grandfathe­r, Ray ‘Muns’ Gillis, 75, on April 4, 2018 at home. Born in New Waterford he was the son of the late Ronald Gillis and Lillian (Parish) Gillis Bates.

Da was avid sports fan, supporter of harness racing and traveled many of the tracks in Eastern Canada racing his horses and later followed racing through simulcast. He’s also been a loyal fan of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles since their inaugural season. Having been employed for over 20 years at the Stag & Doe Beverage Room in New Waterford, Muns was well known in our small town.

He is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Alessandro) and Laura; son, Raymond (Michelle); brother, John (Yvonne) and twin brother Ronnie; grandchild­ren, Bhreagh, Joseph and Blake, and former wife and friend, Barbara Gillis.

Besides his parents, he was also predecease­d by, stepfather, Ambrose Bates; sister, Carmella MacDonald; brother, Gerald; sister, Margaret Rose; niece, Rhonda Lee; sister-in-law, Jean Gillis, and granddaugh­ter, Rebecca McKinnon.

A special thank you to Dr. Ien Oei for your years of care, VON, Cape Breton County Homemakers and Phonse, Carol Ann and Greg for keeping a watchful eye on our dad.

Cremation has taken place and a celebratio­n of life will occur for family and friends later in the summer.
