FULL-SERVICE TIMS
CBU issues tender for full-service Tim Hortons in cafeteria
CBU will be getting a full-service Tim Hortons outlet.
Cape Breton University students will now be able to order an apple fritter or breakfast bagel along with their doubledouble as a tender was issued last week to build a full-service Tim Hortons in the university cafeteria.
The tender detailed all civil, mechanical, electrical and architectural work that will need to be completed as part of the project.
Tim Hortons will supply all equipment and millwork but the successful contractor will be required to do the install to the donut chain’s specifications.
According to the tender document, construction work can begin as early as May 14, while the installation of millwork and equipment is scheduled to start in mid-July.
Students and staff currently have to line up at a small Tim Hortons kiosk where a limited menu is offered along with coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cappuccino.
CBU spokesperson Lenore Parsley said the Tim Hortons outlet has been at the cafeteria for about two years. It is operated by food service provider Chartwells Canada.
“It used to be a Roaster’s, a different coffee shop,” Parsley said.
There will be approximately 1,200 square feet in the newly designed space, which will be modelled in the fashion of other Tim Hortons restaurants using a “cappuccino light” colour scheme.
The full-service Tim Hortons won’t displace any other food vendors in the cafeteria, Parsley said.
Chartwells will hold the contract as the Tim Hortons franchisee.
While construction is ongoing, coffee and tea will continue to be served from the Tim’s outlet, meaning specific safety precautions must be put in place.
The new restaurant is expected to be open in time for the university’s fall semester in September.
