Second Glace Bay accused released on conditions

The second of two Glace Bay men charged in connection with an assault has been released on conditions that include he leave Nova Scotia.

Craig Joe O’Neil, 48, of South Street is charged with forcible entry, break and enter, assault with a weapon (a billy bat), assault causing bodily harm, uttering a threat, carrying a weapon dangerous to the public peace, mischief involving property damage to a door and guitar, and two counts of breaching court orders — failing to behave and failing to not possess any weapons.

He was released after posting $5,000 in cash bail and $1,000 in property. Among the conditions of his release, O’Neill is to live in Belleville, Ont., and have no contact with his co-accused or the complainan­t.

He is to refrain from alcohol and drugs not prescribed him by a physician. Should O’Neill return to Nova Scotia, for other than attending court, he is to advise police in advance and is to live at a Willowdale Street address in Glace Bay and observe a 24/7 curfew. O’Neill is now scheduled to enter pleas May 3.

His co-accused, Craig Michael Doyle, 25, of Hickman Street faces similar charges and was previously released on conditions.

He is also scheduled to enter pleas May 3.

The pair was charged after a 29-year-old man was assaulted in his home earlier this month. The complainan­t and the two accused are known to each other.
