With saddened hearts we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, sister, grandmothe­r and friend. Betty, age 62, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 13, 2018 in the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her loving family by her side. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Ivy) Brushett.

Betty was very involved with her church and was President of the St. Leonard Catholic Women’s League.

She will be fondly remembered for her volunteer work with various organizati­ons and for her selfless helping of others in need.

Betty is survived by her husband, James Bennett; daughter, Kim (Russell) Mauger; son, James (Alison) Bennett Jr; her five beloved grandchild­ren, Dylon and Tyler Binder, Shakira Mauger, Sophie and Zachary Bennett; her brothers, Thomas (Eva), David (Nancy), Brian (Jessie) and Clarence (Janet), and sister-in-law, Maureen Brushett.

Besides her parents, she is also predecease­d by brothers, Billy and Gordon, and sister, Irma Brushett.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held today, Monday, April 16, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.

The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in St. Leonard’s Church, Mt. Carmel Avenue, New Waterford. All are invited to join Betty’s family at a reception in St. Leonard’s Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. Interment will be at a later date in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, New Victoria

As an expression of sympathy for Betty, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the An Cala Unit of the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or to the St. Leonard Catholic Women’s League.
