NSBI offers webinar

- BY CAPE BRETON POST STAFF

Nova Scotia Business Inc. will be hosting a blockchain webinar in Sydney to answer questions in how businesses can leverage this new technology.

Blockchain is a digitized, public ledger of all cryptocurrency transactions.

The Blockchain Research Institute in Toronto describes it as a “distributed, highly secure platform, ledger or database where value — everything from money, stocks, bonds, intellectual property, and deeds, to music, art and even votes — can be stored and exchanged without powerful intermediaries.”

The institute says on its website that public blockchains, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, could open the doors to the worlds unbanked, whereas private blockchains such as those being advanced by leaders on Wall Street could remove hundreds of billions of dollars from financial infrastructure, making the industry faster, more efficient, more secure and less risky.

NSBI will delve into the subject by answering how blockchain works and how it will affect entrepreneurs.

The discussion will be led by Hilary Carter of the Blockchain Research Institute and she will speak on practical uses for blockchain across a variety of sectors and the long-term implications of this technology.

The webinar will be held at Navigate Startup House at the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation at 37 Nepean St. in Sydney from 8:30-11 a.m. on Friday.

Registration is free and those interested can sign up online at www.novascotiabusiness.com.
