Rozicki to face Enriquez on New Glasgow fight card
Ryan Rozicki has a big fight on Saturday, but it’s anything but a warmup for his upcoming title bout next month.
“Thunder” will headline a fight card on May 19 at Centre 200 in Sydney and will tangle with Ontario’s Brock (The Highlander) Arthur for the Eastern Canadian cruiserweight title. But on Saturday, he’ll face seasoned veteran Alvaro Enriquez of Mexico in a six round, 190pound bout at the Boxing Night in Canada fight card at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
“It’s hard to approach it as a warmup fight because the guy has 36 pro fights and I have four,” said the 23-yearold Rozicki from Sydney Forks, who’s added strength training with Peter Siepierski of Adrenaline Training Professionals to his regimen. “He has a lot of experience behind him, so I have to take it seriously.
“He’s been there and done that. He’s faced 11 world champions, so he’s no easy fight, but hopefully we can make it an easy fight.”
The fight for Rozicki is the first since November of 2017. He knocked out Kristof Demendi just two minutes and two seconds into the first round of the main event at Centre 200 to improve his professional record to 4-0.
“He’s got the experience, he’s tough, durable,” he said of the right-handed Enriquez. “I don’t think he’s a big puncher, but he’s got the full package as an opponent. It’s a good step up
from my last fight.”
Coach Glen Williams said Enriquez will be a good test for his fighter.
“Knowing this guy’s background, having that much experience and knowing the guys
he’s been in the ring with — the level of competition that he’s faced — he’s faced guys who have a lot more competition experience than Ryan,” he said. “Ryan is certainly not going to show this guy anything he
hasn’t seen in the past.”
Brody Blair of New Glasgow will headline Saturday’s card against Mexico’s Juan Raygosa. Also in action, Joey Laviolette of Sackville will take on Ricardo Rojas, Kyle MacNeil will battle
Jorge Castro, Justin Blades takes on Adam Ayoubi and Mohammed Debbaugh does battle with Adrian Arenas.
