It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmothe­r, sister, aunt and friend, Marie Marjorie Cavanaugh, age 87, on Tuesday April 24, 2018 at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in North Sydney, October 25, 1930, Marie was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Jane (Osmond) Oxford.

Marie was a member of St. Joseph Church, she enjoyed knitting and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of the North Sydney Pensioners Club and was a former member of the Kinette Club of North Sydney.

Marie is survived by her husband, Dan Cavanaugh; her children, Barbara (John) Maynard, North Sydney, Madonna (Wally) Myalls, Coldbrook, Yvonne (Bill) Poole, North Sydney, Larry (Jackie) Boyd, North Sydney, Richard MacIntyre, Blair MacIntyre, both of Vancouver, Paul MacIntyre, North Sydney, Joann (Harry) Whyte, Bras d’Or, Sheila MacIntyre, Sydney, Danette (Leon) Laffin, Manitoba and Tracy (Michelle) Cavanaugh, Englishtow­n; her seventeen grandchild­ren and twenty-one great grandchild­ren; her two brothers, Melvin (Debbie) Oxford, Ontario and Raymond Oxford, Sydney; her in-laws, Violet (Maurice) Whitty, Billy (Millie) Scott, George (Wanda) Whitty, all of Ingonish and Maria Fitzgerald, Edmonton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie was predecease­d by her first husband, Clarence C. Boyd; her daughter, Paula; son, John in infancy; grandchild­ren, Ann Marie Howatson and Patrick Nicholson, and her sisters, Theresa, Dorothy, Shirley and Daisy.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bill MacDonald and Dr. Patrick O’Grady, the nurses on 4th and 5th floor at the Northside General Hospital for the excellent care and compassion given to Marie, also special thanks to the extended family and friends at Central Court.

Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jake Andrea officiatin­g. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the CNIB or to a charity of one’s choice.
