SHEPHERD, Charles

North Sydney

-

It is with a heavy heart that we, the family of Charles Shepherd, announce his peaceful passing on April 25, 2018 at the age of 99.

Charlie is now reunited with his beloved wife, Henrietta, who predeceased him in 2002; his youngest son, Brent in 2015, and his daughter, Betty in 1957. He is also predeceased by sisters, Marion, Ellen, Winnie and Hazel, as well as his granddaughter, Tammy.

Born March 3, 1919 in Diamond Cove, NL, he was the son of the late Aaron and Elizabeth (Best) Shepherd.

Charlie was a hard worker and spent his days repairing ships at North Sydney Marine Railway. In his past time he enjoyed building fishing boats by hand, including the ones he built for his own children. Charlie was a family man at heart; he wanted nothing but the best for his family and did everything in his power to provide that. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time at the Ballast Grounds in North Sydney swapping fishing stories.

Charlie is survived by his daughters, Sherry, Halifax and Lorraine (Kippy) Jackson, Orangeville, ON; his son, Claude Shepherd, North Sydney; one sister, Harriett Scott, North Sydney, and daughterin-law, Pam. He is also survived by his eight loving grandchildren, Charlie (Heather), Lori, Terry (Angel), Rod (Stacy), Lisa (Marc), Aaron, Rachel and Sarah, as well as many greatgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Dr. Patrick O’Grady and the nursing staff on the 4-west floor at the Northside General Hospital for their care in his final days, as well as Northside Visiting Homemakers for their continuing care and compassion.

Visitation for Charlie will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
