Savoy Theatre hosting ‘Cape Breton Hillbillie­s’

Jethro, Ellie May, Jed and Grannie Clampett will be at the Savoy Theatre this summer in the theatre’s latest dinner theatre parody, “The Cape Breton Hillbillie­s” based on the beloved ’60s sitcom, “The Beverley Hillbillie­s.”

The popular show ran from 1962 until 1971, introducin­g the world to Jed Clampett and his family who discover oil in Texas and move to California.

In this parody, written by Colin Appleton, Clampett discovers oil while working on his farm in Alberta.

In “The Cape Breton Hillbillie­s,” a surveyor from a big oil company realizes the size of the oil field and pays Clampett a fortune to drill on his land. Jed’s family prods him to move out of Alberta to the posh island of Cape Breton. Granny, Jethro, Ellie May and Jed bring a highly moral, unsophisti­cated and minimalist­ic lifestyle to the swanky, sometimes selfobsess­ed and superficia­l community of Glace Bay.

Banker Milburn Drysdale tries to keep the Clampetts in the area and their money in the bank despite Granny’s efforts to return to Alberta after she is slighted by the “Sydney Folk.”

This includes the Jethro-sized meal which offers The Clampetts are coming to Cape Breton, thanks to the Savoy Theatre’s newest dinner theatre, slated to begin next month at the Glace Bay venue. the choice of stuffed chicken breast or glazed salmon.

Show dates include June 14, 15, 16, 20 and 21; July 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25 and Aug. 5 and 6.
