Theatre, Kiwanis hosting camp

Two-week acting program to be held at HAT

-

A Sydney theatre and community service club are teaming up for a special summer project that will target youth.

The Highland Arts Theatre and the Sydney Kiwanis Club will host a two-week intensive theatre program for local youth between the ages of 10-19.

“Our region is ripe with so many talented young people. Dancers, singers and actors alike, who need as many opportunities as possible to hone their craft,” said HAT artistic director Wesley Colford.

The Hatch program will run from Aug. 6-8 and offer participants a professional experience.

Colford said those attending will be cast in an original musical/comedy by a Cape Breton playwright and experience the complete theatrical process as closely as possible.

Participants will work closely with a professional director, music director, choreographer and full creative team.

Tara Hunter, president of the Kiwanis Club of Sydney, said the partnership is a natural fit for her organization.

“Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time,” she said,

Those selected for the camp will participate at no cost thanks to the support of the Kiwanis club.

Auditions are set for June 1011. To register for an audition, contact highlandartstheatre@ gmail.com.
