Yet tickets selling quickly for Christmas shows

When it comes to legends, Cape Bretoners like ‘em festive.

Even though the tickets for the third Legends show at the Savoy have only been available since Sunday morning, more than 600 tickets have already been sold for the two shows that don’t even take place until Dec. 9 and 10.

That’s almost half the tickets sold in just over two days in May for Christmas shows being held in December at the 761-seat venue.

Jenn Sheppard who has appeared in the two previous shows and played Mama Cass at the weekend event, says she knew something special was up during the weekend shows of Legends II.

“Quite honestly, on Saturday night, you could feel it in the room— the place was on fire it was so fun. People were just ready for a party, it was so great.”

Not only was the audience ready but it was a full house, not exactly a common thing anymore. “It’s been a long time since the theatre was so filled to capacity that we were wondering if we had seats for everybody. It’s not that it would happen but it’s a possibility when you sell that many tickets. So we were very, very pleased.”

The holiday show will feature the artists Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers with further artists to be announced at a later date. The third show will be part of the continuing tribute series that has already covered people like Buddy Holly, Patsy Cline and the Everly Brothers in the first show and the Mamas and the Papas, the Righteous Brothers and Roy Orbison in the second show which was staged last weekend.

When asked why the shows are so popular, Sheppard said there was one key ingredient.

“I think it’s the music — we’re trying to stay in that realm of great music that everyone knows,” said Sheppard. “No matter your age, if you didn’t listen to it, your parents did, and I think

it’s attached to a lot of memories for a lot of people. It was a different time and it has real instruments and real voices — it’s stuff we can replicate.”

The shows feature a central story line that links the musical legends together and is narrated by two voices. Sheppard expects the same format for the Christmas shows.

“It’s just a happy little story to connect it all the artists together and it ends up being a nice way to weave it all together and give people a feel-good feeling about it.”
