Arichat funeral home presented with lifetime achievement award
The C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, based in Arichat, was honoured with the Jack Hartery Memorial Lifetime Achievement in Business Award on Wednesday.
Norma and Herman Boudreau were presented the award at the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting and awards gala in Port Hawkesbury, with more than 200 people in attendance.
The award, named for Jack Hartery who was a longtime member of the leadership team at the Stora Enso paper mill in Point Tupper, was established in 2003 with Joe Shannon as the inaugural recipient.
Boudreau’s funeral home has been in business for 42 years and included a watershed moment with the opening of the company’s modern facility overlooking Arichat harbour in 1987.
Other awards were presented to Blaise MacEachern, who received the Kevin Beaton Heart of the Community Award, for his dedication to developing a sustainable trail system in Inverness County, and Loretta Gould, who took home the Cultural Award of Merit for her artwork. She operates an Indigenous-inspired clothing line.
Jeremy Murray was recognized with the chamber’s Leadership Award bursary for Nova Scotia Community College students. The President’s Award was presented to Allana Richardson in recognition of her commitment to the community and to the chamber, particularly organizing Celtic Oktoberfest, the organization’s largest event celebrating the emerging craft brewing sector.
During the AGM, Richie Mann was returned as president of the Strait chamber. He is joined on the executive committee by past president David Hart of NuStar, vice president Heidi MacInnis of Port Hawkesbury Paper, treasurer Beth Groom of St. Joseph’s Credit Union and secretary Diana Poirier of the Regional Occupational Centre Society.
An additional 11 regular board members and six exofficio members also sit on the board.
