CLARKE, Douglas Raymond

It is with deepest sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfathe­r, brother and friend, Douglas Raymond Clarke on Thursday, May 24, 2018.

Born in Sydney on April 8, 1936, to the late William and Mae (Synard) Clarke.

From 19551962, Doug served in the Canadian Army. He was an ice technician at the Sydney Curling Club for 32 years, retiring in 2001. For 30 years, he was a member of Black Watch and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney.

Doug is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy “Dodie” (Forget); children, Susan (Blair) Stewart, Sydney, Douglas, Kingston, Ont. and Wendy (Trevor) Pushie, Inverness; grandchild­ren, Jennifer (Jorden Langlois), Sydney and Austin, Kingston, Ont., of whom he was very proud; brothers, Walter (Mary) Clarke and Fred (Pearl) Clarke; sisters, Gladys (the late Wally) Carew, Dorothy (the late Ernest) Mugridge and Rita (Ron) Morrison, all of Sydney; brother-in-law, Frank (Isabel) Forget; sistersin-law, Jean Moore and Louise Wagner and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his brothers, Cecil, Harold, Wilson and Willie and sister, Hilda Boutilier.

We would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and Palliative Care, especially, Linda Murphy and Jackie Brake. Also, thank you to the VON for their care over the years

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, May 28 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.

Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, May 29 at 11 a.m., with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiatin­g. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Cape Breton Cancer Patient Care Fund or the VON.
