It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmothe­r, sister and aunt, Beverly Wilma (MacLeod) Nicholson on Wednesday May 30, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Glace Bay on July 12, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Margaret (Bourinot) MacLeod.

Beverly loved being in the company of her family and friends. She was a devoted teacher for 35 plus years with the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board. She retired in 1994. She was involved with the seniors’ fitness, she loved to bowl and only a few short years ago could be found at the rink either skating or watching one of the grandchild­ren playing hockey. She had a heart of gold with her generosity always shining through. She opened her home and her bungalow in Mira to family and extended family at any time. She loved to travel and entertain. Her life was devoted to her family, especially spending time with her grandkids.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Butch (Roy); daughter, Rhonda (Peter) Byrne, Glace Bay; son, Daniel (Shelley) Nicholson, St. Peter’s; grandchild­ren, Tyler, Patrick, Leah and Landon; sisters, Cheryl (Reggie) Asselin, Quebec, Heather (Malcolm) O’Brien, Ontario, brother-in-law Leonard Flynn and special niece much like a sister, Lorna (John) Duguay, Ottawa. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews especially, Billy MacLeod and Allan Nicholson who were always there to check in on her.

She was predecease­d by her parents; brothers, John, Chalmers, Alton, Lawrence, Norris and sisters, Barbara, Eileen, Myrna, Avril, and Chris.

Visitation will be held at Patten’s Funeral Home, Union Street, Glace Bay, Monday, June 4, 2018 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Church Service to follow, 2 p.m. at Newsom United Church. Reception to follow, Newsom Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beverly’s memory to the Heart and Stroke foundation.
