LETTICE, Daniel ‘Danny’ Joseph

It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the death of Daniel ‘Danny’ Lettice, 75, at the Northside General Hospital, 4 West, on Sunday, June 10, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Born and raised in Sydney Mines on September 4, 1942 he was a son of the Late Daniel Joseph and Harriett Helen (Belmore) Lettice.

Danny was a coal miner for 38 years, retiring in 1993, at which time he turned his hand to cabinet making, creating another full-time job. This hobby turned passion kept him busy through the winter months, and allowed he and Bernadette to pursue their shared love of travel. Whether on a boat or in the RV, they were at home on the road, especially in the nooks and crannies of Newfoundla­nd. Upon Bernadette’s passing in 2008, he continued to spend his summers enjoying the trailer in Lake Ainslie with his dog Misty, until his cancer diagnosis 2016.

Danny is survived by his children, Daniel ‘Jimmy’ (Dawna), Sydney Mines, Linda (Late Bill MacLeod), Southside Boularderi­e, Greg (Lise Marple), Sydney Mines, Darrell (Candace Snow), Alberta; step-daughter, Jean-Marie Rendell, Sydney Mines; eleven grandchild­ren; four great-grandchild­ren, as well as sisters, Marie (David Scott), North Sydney, Mary (Late Bill Ratto), Sackville, Betty (Stephen Allan), Elmsdale, Marion (Gordon Devoe), North Sydney, Kay (Larry Moore) Middle Sackville, and brothers, Clinton (Pat) Sydney Mines and John (Selena) North Sydney.

Besides his parents, Danny was predecease­d by his wife of 43 years, Bernadette (Devoe), whom he loved and adored, as well as sisters, Kathleen Lettice, Josephine Lettice and Jane (Lettice) Roberts.

Mom and Dad are finally reunited. A visitation will take place on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave. from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. A Celebratio­n of Danny’s Life will take place on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, with interment to take place at Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Tobin Road.

We truly appreciate the care and dedication provided by our Family Doctor, M. MacKeough, the excellent staff of the Cape Breton Regional and Northside General Hospitals, as well as the VON, and the in-home palliative care team.

Donations in Danny’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Fund through the Cape Breton Hospital Foundation.
