Video to support IWK program

-

A children’s program at the IWK is getting some musical support.

The first program of its kind in Atlantic Canada, the IWK’s SeaStar Child and Youth Advocacy Centre was set up to improve response to childhood abuse and trauma.

The centre is a child and youth-friendly place where professionals provide a co-ordinated and streamlined approach to a forensic interview with a medical exam, mental health services, court support and preparation, accredited facility dog support, and personalized followup — all in one location.

Juno award-winning rapper Classified recently released an acoustic video of his song, “Powerless.” It features an allstar cast of Nova Scotia musicians, including David Myles, Joel Plaskett, Rose Cousins and Breagh MacKinnon of Port Cities.

The song is set to increase awareness around the SeaStar Child and Youth Advocacy Centre and ultimately give a voice to children and youth who have suffered violence or abuse.

“We did this partnership with the SeaStar Centre to bring awareness to all the great things they are doing to help children who have been abused — all the musicians who came through really made it something special,” said Classified.

“Powerless” will be featured on Classified’s upcoming EP “Tomorrow Could Be…” to be released June 29 on his label, Half Life Records.
