Expansion project underway at Victoria County Memorial Hospital
A parking lot expansion project at Victoria County Memorial Hospital is underway.
Twenty-five new spaces will be added to the upper parking lot for a total of 66 spaces to be used by both hospital staff and visitors at the Baddeck facility.
The entrance for the new upper parking lot will be from McDermid Street with access to the hospital by a set of stairs connected to the lower lot. Lighting is also expected to be added.
The project will cost more than $238,000 to complete. Significant contributions were made to the project by the Municipality of Victoria County and the Victoria County Memorial Hospital Charitable Foundation.
“This project is another example of the ongoing generosity we see every day in Victoria County,” said Rose MacIsaac, facility manager at the hospital. “It also shows the high level of interest that the people in the county have in the hospital.”
Gordon MacIver, chair of the hospital foundation, is also pleased with the project.
“It’s through the generosity of our community and donors that the foundation is able to purchase equipment and assist with facility upgrades like this one at the hospital. We are grateful for the support of our community and our donors.”
While work is underway, people can still access the building through the main entrance. People are also asked to use caution on the roadways near the hospital or as they enter and exit the current parking lot.
In some cases, people may have to park temporarily on nearby streets or be dropped off and picked up at the entrance.
The contract for the expansion work was recently awarded to Municipal Ready Mix. Work is expected to be completed in July.
