It is with sadness and broken hearts that we, the family of Gregory Theodore McKinnon, announce his passing due to a motor vehicle accident, at the age of 76.

Born in New Waterford, Greg was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (nee Christy) McKinnon.

Employed at an early age, he delivered the newspaper, was dispatcher at the taxi stand, and bag boy at Benny Gaum’s store on Hinchey Ave. He later followed his father and two brothers and began working in the coal mines, taking an early retirement at age 50 due to back and lung problems.

Greg loved gardening, fishing and hunting with his hound dogs and spending time at the cabin in Loch Lomond with close friends, Jim and Sid and numerous others. His best fishing time was at the fishing derby at Colliery Lands Park every year with his grandchildren, trying to catch the big “tagged” one.

Greg is survived by his wife of 54 years, Angela (nee Deveaux); sons, Gregory (Irene) and Jason (Janice); daughters, Irene (Jamie) and Sharon (Jason); grandchildren, Colin, Bhreagh, Alex, Sarah, and Theo; sister, Linda MacKinnon; sisters-inlaw, Eunice (Eddy) McCarthy, Carol Steele; brothers-in-law, Gerard, Joe (Betty), Tim and like a brother, Johnny, who was also injured in the accident; many nieces and nephews, and his faithful companion, Lucy.
