GENTILE, Thelma Jean

Jean Gentile passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Cove Guest Home with family by her side and in her heart.

Jean was born in Portuguese Cove, Nova Scotia, later marrying and building a home and life in Cape Breton Island.

Mom was a strong woman, wife, mother and friend to all who were part of her life. She overcame much and lived as an example of will, character and compassion. Mom was fun loving, loved to dance, laugh and recognize the meaningful moments – which were always plentiful. Mom managed to raise six children, and following the early loss of her husband Lovell (Shorty) Gentile, worked full-time as a personal care worker that the Cove Guest Home. Mom was small in stature but offered a capacity beyond her frame – helping shape the lives of her children of whom she was so very proud.

Besides her parents, Claude A Moore and Thelma E Davis, Jean was predecease­d by her husband, Lovell and her brothers, Kenneth and Donald Moore.

Jean is survived by her children, David, Judy (Edward) Burke, Carol Ann (Vladimir) Karmanov, Frank (Liisa), Darlene, Paul (Jody) and her twelve grandchild­ren and seven great-grandchild­ren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Doris Moore.

A special thanks to her angels on Spanish Bay at the Cove Guest Home who cared for Jean as one of their own.

A celebratio­n of Jean’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2018 in the Chant’s Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiatin­g.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
