McNEIL, James Hector ‘Teddy’

It is with great sadness we, the family of James ‘Teddy’ McNeil, announce his passing on June 15, 2018 at home. Born in Glace Bay on August 12, 1928 he was the son of the late James and Margaret (McIntyre) McNeil.

Teddy spent 25 years working at Canada Wire and Cable in Toronto, ON. His love

of family and his faith were the very essence of his being. His love of music was a passion he followed throughout all his years, entertaini­ng family and friends with his beautiful voice. He always longed to return to Cape Breton and was fortunate to live the last half of his life in beautiful Lingan, NS. He served his community through volunteeri­ng at St. Joseph’s Parish, Lingan,

St. Vincent de Paul Society and Maple Hill Manor.

Teddy was affectiona­tely known as Papa and Big Papa to his grandchild­ren and greatgrand­children. Finally, he recently said to Doris, his wife of almost 70 years, “I don’t have words to tell you how much I love you”.

Teddy is survived by his loving wife, Doris (Wilson); his children, Ron (Sue), Gail (Joe), Wanda and Darlene (Ronnie); grandchild­ren, Jennifer, Lee, Joshua, Simone, Geoffrey, Kelly, Amy, Jason, Anthony, Luke and Amanda; greatgrand­children, Johanna, Connor, Shea-Lynn, Issac, Emily, Jackson, Carter, Riley, Chase, Madison and Oliver. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Besides his parents he was also predecease­d by sons, Blaine and Dale; brother, Hughie, and sisters, Chris, Mary and Catherine.

Visitation will be today, Monday, June 18 from 3-8 p.m. and a Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, June 19 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford with Fr. Paul MacGillvra­ry officiatin­g. Internment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lingan followed by a luncheon at the K.O.C., Plummer Avenue and all are welcomed.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500.

Donations in memory of Teddy can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society or Palliative Care.
