Calling all ballet dancers to the Savoy

Theatre seeking performers for December production of ‘The Nutcracker’

- BY CAPE BRETON POST STAFF

The Savoy Theatre is looking for ballet dancers to take part in the fourth annual showing of “The Nutcracker” in December

Directors/choreographers Cynthia Vokey and Kim Roper and director Cynthia Lahey return to head up the production team with producer Pam Leader.

Dancers of all ages and genders are needed.

The production needs ballet dancers (three years of experience minimum) ages seven and over, both male and female. Pointe training is an asset. Between 40 and 60 dancers will be cast. Dancers must be available for show dates in December and weekly rehearsals beginning in July. Potential show dates are Dec. 1-3.

Auditions will be held at the Savoy Theatre on Saturday, July 14 beginning at 12 p.m. (group audition sessions will last approximately 45 minutes). Call back auditions will be held, Sunday, July 15 from 6-9 p.m.

Anyone wishing to audition must book an audition space via email — walk-in auditions are not available. Please note, these are group sessions based on age and experience, therefore there is little leeway in requesting specific times.

Female dancers must wear a dark leotard or bodysuit, pink tights, ballet shoes. This will primarily be a soft shoe audition however if dancers have pointe shoes they are asked to bring them as there will be some pointe work. Hair must be off the face in a tight ballet bun.

Male dancers must wear black dance pants, a black or white T-shirt or tank top and either ballet shoes or jazz shoes.

Dancers are asked to arrive 20 to 30 minutes before the scheduled audition time to warm up and check in.

To book an addition email: savoyauditions@gmail.com. An audition date for narration of “The Nutcracker” will be done separately and dates and times will be announced in the near future.
