Cape Breton Chorale in need of voices

Musical group holding auditions for new members

- BY CAPE BRETON POST STAFF

The Cape Breton Chorale is looking for a few good voices.

Singers, especially in the bass, baritone and tenor registers, are in demand. The chorale group would like to hear from interested participants to arrange an audition.

For those considering an audition, keep these criteria in mind:

• Some experience singing harmony is required, either in choral settings or in productions

• Understanding of some basics of vocal technique or demonstrated vocal confidence in audition performance

• Openness to learning different styles of music in an ensemble setting

• Commitment to rehearsals and performances

• A willingness to study and learn concert music outside of rehearsal — independently or with rehearsal aids, an openness to learning new skills and expanding upon existing skills (vocal, aural, rhythm, reading, movement).

Interested persons are asked to prepare one or two selections for the audition. Performers should be ready to experiment with their voice for a few minutes — this may involve some simple patterns across your range.

Those auditioning will be tested on their aural skills and you may be asked to sing a familiar song unaccompanied. An accompanist will be provided, or you may bring your own accompanist.

For more information, email, info@capebretonchorale.com or phone, 902-968-9041 or 902-5676437.

A second round of auditions may be organized in late August.

The Cape Breton Chorale’s 46th season will begin Thursday, Sept. 6 and continue until midspring 2019.
