Police seize $15,000 in pot from Whitney Pier residence

Three Whitney Pier residents are facing charges of drug production, possession and traffickin­g.

Cape Breton Regional Police say the trio was arrested Monday night after officers seized a large amount of marijuana from a Maloney Street residence.

Members of street crime unit executed two search warrants under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, seizing marijuana with a street value of $15,000, along with THC products, prescripti­on pills, firearms, ammunition, cash, scales and packaging and over 200 marijuana plants at various stages of growth.

Officers estimate the plants offered a potential yield of over $250,000.

Colin Joseph McCormick, 51, Randy Joseph Brophy, 48, and a 46-year-old female, were arrested at the scene and later charged with possession for the purpose of traffickin­g in marijuana and cannabis resin and production of marijuana and cannabis resin.

McCormick and the female are also both charged with possession of oxycodone and unsafe storage of ammunition.

Brophy also faces charges of unsafe storage of firearms, unsafe storage of ammunition and resisting arrest.

Both McCormick and Brophy will return to court June 29 for bail hearings. The female had yet to be arraigned on charges late Wednesday afternoon.
