It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ronald A. MacDonald ‘Ron’ on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Dominion on July 29,1933, he was the son of the late Ernie and Christine ‘Tina’ (Campbell) MacDonald.

Ron’s career spanned a few areas, initially working with Sydney Louisburg Railway, and over 30 years with Transport Canada as a firefighte­r at Sydney and Charlottet­own airports. He was also a volunteer firefighte­r for the town of Dominion for over 25 years. He was a devoted family man, who travelled the country to spend time with his children, grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren.

Ron was also a devout catholic, who volunteere­d many hours to St. Eugene’s parish as a choir member and director. He was also a member of other church choirs in the Glace Bay Deanery.

He and mom would be seen often at the local card games, enjoying an evening of camaraderi­e and friendship.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Lorna (nee Gouthro) of 62 years. She was his best buddy and soul mate, they were always seen together. He will also be deeply missed by his loving children, Paulette (Blake) McWilliam, Aileen (Stephen) Murphy, Kevin (Sandra), Elizabeth (Rod) Luzentales, Allan (Maria), David (Lisa). Grampie is also survived by his 13 grandchild­ren and four great-grandchild­ren.

Besides his parents, Ron was predecease­d by his only sibling, Myrna Gatto.

In keeping with Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday. June 29, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Interment will follow in St. Eugene’s cemetery, reception will be held in the church hall.
