MACNEIL, Catherine W. ‘Lena’

New Waterford

The family of Catherine Lena MacNeil wish to announce her sudden passing on June 30, 2018 at home. Born in Ingonish, Lena was the daughter of the late John T. and Bridget (Hines) Whitty.

She was a member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club, her faith was very important to her, she was housekeeper and babysitter for many years for the McVeigh family and they were like family to her.

Lena is survived by her daughter, Colleen Saunders, Halifax; sister, Ellen Marie Pellerine, Guysborough County; brothers, Adrian, Ingonish, John, Port Hawkesbury and Scott, Sydney; grandchildren, Colin, Jeffrey and Connor; great-grandchildren, Silas and Otto, and daughter-inlaw, Brenda (MacQueen).

Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Francis; sons, Gary, Robert and Frankie; sisters, Theresa Ross and Gertrude in infancy, and brothers, Albert, Godfrey and Charles.

Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 4 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Leonard with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Internment in Mount Carmel Cemetery followed by a luncheon in the parish hall, Convent Street and all are welcome.
