Visual Arts Nova Scotia, in partnership with Lumière Arts Festival Association, will host a five-week artist-in-residence program in Sydney.

This residency provides for the artist to work a 40-hour week. Approximately 30 per cent of the time will be dedicated to community-based work, including hands-on workshops, studio visits, talks and presentations, and 70 per cent to the artist’s own work, be that creation, research or both. The residency is Aug. 27 to Sept. 30, and the artist will present the product of their residency work at Lumière’s Art-at-Night event on Sept. 29.

This residency will provide a chance for the artist to have a period of work with a focus on their own practice and engagement with youth and others in the community. A studio space at the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation and accommodations in Sydney will be provided, and a $2,500 stipend will be paid to the artist.

The theme for Lumière 2018 is Erosion, so your project should relate to that theme. To apply, artists must submit a one paragraph artist statement, a residency outline (one to three pages), artist CV and documentation of work (maximum of 10 images). For more information, go to http://www. visualarts.ns.ca/vans-in-residence-in-partnership-withlumiere/.
