A body located in the water in Judique on Thursday has been confirmed to be that of a missing Lower Sackville man.

In a Facebook post on Thursday evening entitled “A thank you from the Beaton Family,” Allan MacMaster, the MLA for Inverness, wrote that Colin Beaton was found that morning by family and a close friend and is now resting in peace.

Earlier, an RCMP press release noted that remains were found in the ocean at about 9 a.m. on Thursday and that they were working with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service to identify the individual.

In MacMaster’s Facebook post, he wrote that the Beaton family thanked RCMP members, ground search and rescue volunteers and “those of you who came forward when you thought you might have seen Colin, and to everyone who volunteered to search further.”

The family statement also noted that Beaton was reunited with his family and given the last rites.

“With this complete, the Beaton family wants to let all of you out there know how much your support to them has meant over the past few days. We will always remember Colin and keep him close to our hearts.”

Previously, MacMaster told the Cape Breton Post his 31-year-old cousin from his father’s side of the family had arrived in Harbourview, near Port Hood, last Friday evening for a family gathering.

The property is located near the intersection of Route 19 and Shore Road.
