Sydney River man charged with weapon offence
SYDNEY — A Sydney River man has been charged with a weapon’s offence in connection with the temporary closure last month of three businesses. Donald Joseph Griffiths, 29, of Kimberly Drive is charged with possession of a weapon, a gun, for a dangerous purpose. The offence is alleged to have occurred May 30 in Sydney.
The charge stems from the brief closure of the Maritime Environmental Training Institute on Alexandra Stree,t along with two nearby businesses.
Cape Breton Regional Police were called to the training facility after receiving a report of an “incident of concern” on the METI property.
The three businesses imposed their own lockdown procedures while police investigated and later returned to normal business operations. Griffiths was found away from the METI property.
