Shawn Yorke, the former Glace Bay man murdered in Ontario on July 8, will be buried in his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs jersey.

Brenda Dunlop of Glace Bay said the funeral service for her brother is being held at the Henry Walser Funeral Home in Kitchener at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Dunlop said Shawn was an avid Maple Leaf fan and he will be wearing his jersey.

“We are asking everyone coming to wear their jersey too,” she said.

The service will be live streamed. People can visit the funeral home website at https://www.henrywalser.com/ and look under ‘our services’ to find the live stream link.

“He will be cremated and then I’m going to get my son to bring Shawn’s ashes home.”

Dunlop said a service will also be held in Glace Bay for her brother in about two weeks.

“I will notify everyone on Facebook about where we’re having the service.”

Yorke’s body was discovered in his home in Kitchener on July 8 at about 1:20 a.m. The Waterloo Police Service said an autopsy revealed he died of a gunshot wound.

With her voice cracking with emotion, Dunlop said Friday was a hard day, trying to prepare for the funeral and yet trying to get more information on what happened to Shawn.

“There doesn’t seem to be any answers coming from anywhere,” she said.

The family is hoping someone out there will provide information to police.

“I just want to make sure there is justice.”

On Friday Inspector Mike Haffner of the Waterloo Police Service said they are receiving tips and leads.

“We are getting a lot of information from the public and are still investigating the unfortunate death of Mr. Yorke,” he said.

Haffner they are still trying to identify the individual or individuals responsible.

“We are still continuing the investigation. There have been no arrests at this point.” The funeral service for Shawn Yorke, the Glace Bay man murdered in Ontario on July 8, will be held in Ontario Tuesday and locally in two weeks.
