Achievement days
Members demonstrate their skills
Last week was a busy week for 4-H members in Cape Breton County.
The Northside 4-H Club had their achievement day at the Exhibition Grounds in North Sydney where members displayed many beautiful projects.
The livestock members spent hours practicing with their animals to get ready to demonstrate their showmanship skills.
The light horse members completed showmanship patterns and gained some tips on how to polish up their maneuvers before the exhibition.
The Exploring 4-H members had a creative display of projects that they made over the year including fleece pillow cases, herb gardens, recycled pencil holders, scrapbooked bulletin boards for displaying memories and a yummy mac and cheese recipe they perfected during a project meeting.
The vet science members had a useful collection of hoof firstaid supplies for equines that find themselves in less than ideal situations.
The evening portion of the days activates brought the achievement day certificate presentation and fashion show competition.
The Rising Sun 4-H Achievers Club has a large number of livestock members this year and as a result, members spent lots of time calculating feed, housing and equipment costs associated with raising their animals for their record sheets.
The club has several members in the rabbit, poultry, sheep, light horse, mini horse and draft horse projects. We are excited to see everyone’s animals at exhibition time.
The photography members from both clubs had beautiful displays of pictures that captured favorite nature scenes and memories from the past year.
Rising Sun 4-H members and leaders also decided to start a new year of community serve projects within their club and began by painted coasters to donate.
Grand Mira had their achievement day on Monday, July 9 which will mark the end of the Cape Breton Region Achievement Days until August.
During the next few weeks members will partake in other 4-H related activities such as Camp Rankin, the EastGen Showcase and spend time enjoying the sun shine.
The 4-H members would like to extend a large thank you to their parents, leaders and general leaders for helping them with their 4-H projects throughout the year and teaching them many new skills.
