BONNER, Leonard Junior, Jr.

-

Sydney Mines

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father Leonard Junior Bonner, Jr. on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Northside General Hospital surrounded by family. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Lucy (Kendell) and Leonard Bonner.

Leonard was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Violet (Burton). He was also predeceased by brothers, Alphonse (Toddy), Cecil and Harrison; sisters, Edna and Frances; daughterin-law, Anne Mae, and special great-niece, Cindy.

Leonard enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends (especially when a meal was involved). Leonard was raised in North Sydney with his parents and siblings, until becoming Royal Canadian Armed Forces, where he proudly served 20 years as an Electrical Mechanical Engineer - Master Mechanic and peace keeper overseas throughout his career. He met the love of his life Violet Bonner (Burton) in 1957, fell in love at first sight and married two weeks later. They spent their years making a life and family of their own. He spent his retired years in his barn building, having a beer with his buddies, spending quality time with his wife, children and grandchildren, and making the best Mac and Cheese in town. He lost his wife in 2009 and spent his last years surrounded by family; children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially enjoyed the “visits” from his homemakers, the laughs from his special friend Bill, and Christmas time when he had a house filled with kids. He was always a laugh with a quick wit, a smile that could light up a room and a little sarcasm on the side.

Leonard was survived by one son, Leonard (Louvine), of Bras d’Or; daughters, Eleanor (Michael) Ryan of Lr. Sackville, Deborah of Sydney Mines, Stephanie (Teddy) of North Sydney and Charlene (Bill) of Florence; nine grandchildren, and fourteen greatgrandchildren, all of whom he cherished. Also survived by sisters, Thelma, Joan, Marion and Helen, and numerous nieces and nephews who he truly adored.

We would like to give special to The Northside Homemakers who made his last years at home not only enjoyable, but possible. He always lit up talking about time spent with “his girls” and the impeccable care he received while they were there. Also a big thank you to: Dr. Beth MacCormick, the nurses of the VON, and the nursing staff of Northside General and Harbourview Hospital. We would like to extend our greatest gratitude to the nursing team who made themselves

available on the night of his passing, he was treated with the upmost respect and you allowed him to pass with dignity.

Visitation for the late Leonard Bonner will take place Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at JM Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines from 2 to 4 p.m. Family service will take place at a later date.

Words of comfort may be forwarded to jmjobesfuneralhome. com.
