MACDONALD, Russell ‘Scruff’

Brampton/New Waterford

-

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Russell MacDonald, announce his passing after his battle with cancer on June 20, 2018 in Brampton, Ontario. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Angus and the late Muriel (Marsh) MacDonald.

Russell worked as the manager of Italpasta in Ontario for a number of years. He loved nature and being in the woods with his family or alone. He had a passion for art and would drive on country dirt roads to collect rocks and wood and then would paint pictures of birds, deer and ducks on them. He played the guitar and would sing his heart out, whether he knew the words or not, just to put a smile on the faces of his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, often taking his nieces and nephews on his days off. Russell always wanted to move back to Cape Breton that he loved so much, he finally made it home.

Russell is survived by his son, Billy Burns; sisters, Teresa (Walter), Laurie and Vera (Bobby); brothers, David, Johnny, Robbie and Darren (Janet); special friend, Cathy, as well as his nieces and nephews, whom he dearly loved. Russell lived with Ronnie, Joanna, Johnnie and Somer as they loved and cared for him while he was sick.

Besides his mother, he was predeceased by uncles, Russell, Raymond and Brian, as well as aunt, Dorothy.
