MCNEIL, Thomas Angus ‘Tommy’

We regret to announce the death of Thomas Angus ‘Tommy’ McNeil on July 23, 2018 at age 93. Tommy was the son of the late Dan S. and Alexina ‘Lexie’ (MacDonald) McNeil.

He is survived by his wife, Marg; sons, Tom (Karen) and Ryan (Lesley), and grandson, Stephen.

Tommy was born in New Waterford where he lived most of his ninety-three years. Tommy, with Harry Gregor and Lonnie Bates, was owner of Bowl-Mor Lane in New Waterford and was part of a group of New Waterford businessme­n and coal miners who formed an investment club that opened the bowling alley on Prince Street in Sydney. Previously, he worked many years at 18 Colliery. Tommy had a strong faith, likeable personalit­y and a striking resilience. He was a good role model for his sons.

In addition to his parents, Tommy was predecease­d by his son, Daniel (in infancy); his sisters, Catherine, Mary (Dal), Peggy, Joan, Ellen, Mae, Euphemia and Phemia, and brothers, Duncan and Angus.

He is survived by his sister, Carmel, and brothers, Frank and Joe.

There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 26 at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Parish, Mount Carmel Ave. with Fr. Ray Huntley officiatin­g. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery with reception to follow at the parish hall, Convent Street.
