HANSON, Daniel Calvin ‘Dannie’

-

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dannie Hanson on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at his home in Albert Bridge. He was the son of the late Charles and Eileen (MacDonald) Hanson.

Dannie led a full and busy life starting at a young age with the military during which time he served in the Middle East with the Peace Corp, from there he spent many years working with logistics, administration, federal departments and community development. He served a term on Cape Breton Regional Council. In his present position with Louisburg Seafoods as Vice-President of Sustainability and Public Affairs he travelled all over the world to countries like Iceland and Finland, making longtime friends along the way. He served on the board of directors for The Perennia Food and Aquaculture Board and as Chair of the N.S. Fisheries and Aquaculture Loan Board and many more too numerous to list here. Dannie worked closely with Chief Terry Paul of Membertou as well as other First Nations Bands. He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Mira.

He had a deep passion for making his community a better place and gave a hand to those in need without hesitation.

Dannie is survived by his brothers, Guy (Diane), Trevor (Patricia), Roddie (Diane), and Walter, all of Mira and Pattie in Alberta; sisters, Mildred Cameron, Sydney, Charlene (Chuck) Dornadic, Westmount, Deborah, Ontario; sister-in-law, Kathleen. He is also survived by 16 nephews and nieces and godchildren, all of whom he loved very much, and his breakfast buddy, Brittany.

He was predeceased by brothers, Charles, Beaton, Alden and David, and nieces, Cheryl and Robin.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Dannie will be held from 12-1 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018, at the Albert Bridge Fire Hall. A celebration of life will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.

In lieu of flowers a donation to charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of SW Chant & Son Funeral Home.

Online condolences may be made by visiting www.chantfuneralhome.ca. No matter how far from home, Dannie’s mantra was “I’d rather be on the farm than emperor of the world”.
