COWS Ice Cream

An udderly delectable experience

- BY CYNTHIA MCMURRAY

You’ve never truly had ice cream until you’ve tasted real ice cream — the kind churned by hand, using 100 per cent all-natural ingredients. That was the idea behind the Charlottetown, P.E.I.ice cream parlour that has become a staple in the province … and beyond.

COWS first opened its doors in 1983 in the quaint town of Cavendish, where it shared the spotlight with another P.E.I.staple — Green Gables. Using a secret recipe handed down through several generations, the iconic ice cream maker launched with a single flavour — vanilla. But one flavour was all they needed to showcase their spectacular ice cream, which is made with 16 per cent butterfat from grass fed P.E.I. cows, fresh, local eggs and sugar. That’s it!

Today, the ultra-premium ice cream chain has 12 locations (six in P.E.I.), a 32,000-square-foot facility where COWS also makes their already famous cheese, butter and udderly delicious 32 — and counting — flavours of ice cream. Now recognized world-wide with a location in Beijing, the tiny store that once was, sells more than a million scoops of ice cream every year and has been recognized as the“Best Ice Cream in Canada”by Readers Digest and the even the “Best Ice Cream in the World”by Talk World Travel!

Check out these Top 10, must-have COWS flavours (in no particular order) as ranked by loyal customers:

While these Top 10 flavours definitely taste like moo-re,the remaining flavours are still heads and tails above any other ice cream you’ve probably tasted. So, why not be a rebel and try more than one?
