Cabot Cliffs remains the No. 1 golf course in Canada, according to the latest survey of the nation’s best courses from ScoreGolf.

The national golf magazine released the findings of its Top 100 on Thursday and placed the Inverness course and all its panoramic views at the top of it.

“The Bill Coore-Ben Crenshaw jaw-dropper contains several spectacular ocean-side holes, holes through high dunes and holes on both high and low lands,” according to a description at scoregolf.com.

“It has it all and it’s the best course in Canada.”

The Cape Breton course edged Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in the chase for the top of the survey. Cliff’s sister course, Cabot Links, ranked No. 4, while Highlands Links placed at No. 8 overall.

In the survey, Cabot Links was called the “purest golf experience in Canada,” while the

Highlands Links was noted to be ‘truly unlike’ any other in Canada.

“The routing is simply sublime as Stanley Thompson takes you from the Atlantic Ocean, to the mountains, into a valley and back to the ocean again,” the survey says of Highlands. “Humps and bumps all the way around.”

The Links at Crowbush Cove in Morrell, P.E.I. was the only other Atlantic Canadian course on the list and was ranked at No. 39.

The Top Golf Courses in Canada 2018 is based on a 2017 Golf Canada/PGA of Canada facilities report on 2,051 18-hole equivalent golf courses in Canada.

The survey is compiled every two years by a panel that includes pros, media members and public players.

Cabot Cliffs ranked No. 1 the last time the survey was published, while Cabot Links was No. 4 and Highland Links No. 7.

The courses that make the cut are said to represent the country’s top 4.875 percentile, according to Scoregolf.
