GILLIS, Raymond ‘Muns’

A chapel service for the late Raymond ’Muns’ Gillis, who passed away on April 4th, will be held Monday, July 30th at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Oliver officiatin­g followed by a luncheon at the parish hall, Convent St., and all are welcome.

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Bill O’Neil at age 67 at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Mrs. Anita O’Neil and the late Alexander O’Neil.

He was employed as a hard rock miner for many years in Ontario. Bill was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 78, Dominion. He was an avid dart player, he played whenever and wherever he could. Bill was an avid reader. He enjoyed spending time with his family, he will be greatly missed.

Besides his mother, Anita, Bill is survived by his son, Sandy O’Neil, Sydney; his two step daughters, Micaela Homann, and Rachel Homann Buffett; step grandson, Nicholas. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Ford, Isabel Funari (Eric), Marg MacDougall, Phyllis O’Neil, Joan Gerard (Bob), Tom O’Neil (Bonny), Maureen O’Neil, Paul O’Neil (Janet), Cletus O’Neil (Shelley), Norma O’Neil, Sandra Bray (Darryl), Stephen O’Neil (Tammy); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, Alexander, Bill was predecease­d by his companion, Margie Homann.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialist­s, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS, 902-849-4199. Reception to follow.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the New Waterford Hospital, Palliative Care, the cancer centre and VON for all the care and support given to Bill during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Palliative Care, Sydney.
