Bay Days just days away

Annual summer festival begins Thursday

The summertime party in Glace Bay is back. Bay Days Summer Festival runs Thursday until Sunday.

Festivitie­s began with some warmup events this week including a Halloween in July party at the Glace Bay Library today from 2-3 p.m.

Bay Days officially kicks off Thursday with the Bay Days Parade. Parade lineup is at Sobey’s parking at 4:30 p.m. and the parade will begin at 6 p.m. The parade route includes Reserve Street, Union Street, Commercial Street, ending at the South Street Ballfield. Cold drinks and snacks will be provided by Knox United Church during the parade in front of Knox Church.

Other events Thursday include:

• 7 p.m. — Official opening of the Glace Bay Community Commons.

• 6:30-10:30 p.m. Entertainm­ent at the Main Event

• 9 p.m.-1 a.m.— Good Choice performing at the branch 3 Royal Canadian Legion

Friday

• 10 a.m.-2 p.m. — Town House barbecue

• 1-3 p.m. — Create, explore and adventure around the Cape Breton Miners Museum for ages 10 and up. Register by phoning 902-849-4522.

• 3-5 p.m. — Teddy Bear Picnic hosted by the Y’s Men at Knox hall.

• 6-9 p.m. — Bayitforwa­rd Street Party on Commercial Street. Kids karaoke from 6-7 p.m. Lazer tag, kids’ games, BBQ, sidewalk sale, vendors market.

Saturday

• 12-3 p.m. — Costume Party at the Park Street entrance to Renwick Brook. Register by telephonin­g 902-578-7692.

• 3 p.m. — The amazing Bay Days Duck Race at Renwick Brook. Ducks available at most local merchants and on site until 2:30 p.m. on the day of the race. Prizes of first place $1,500, second place $1,000 and third place $500.

• 5-6:10 p.m. — Kids Event at the Undercurre­nt Youth Centre. Bouncy houses, an inflatable obstacle course, games and treats. A movie night will begin at 6:15 p.m. with a showing of “Ferdinand.”

• 9 p.m.-1 a.m. — Music by DJ at branch 3 of the Royal Canadian Legion.

• 10 p.m.-2 a.m. — Cherrybomb at the Main Event.

Sunday

• 10 a.m.-1 p.m. — Family Day at Queen Elizabeth Park. A fun day for the family with bounce houses, kids’ games, face painting, pony rides, magic shows, etc.

• Parade of Sails at the Glace Bay harbour followed by fireworks at dusk. Kids are invited to the Miner’s Village Restaurant parking lot to watch the fireworks and enjoy free snacks
