On July 28, 2018 God granted our Mom’s wish. She was reunited with the love of her life, our Dad, Bernie Burke. It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother Josie, 96, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, where she was a resident for the past 3 years. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Annie (Martin) Devison.

For many years, Josie and her husband Bernie operated Burke’s Dairy on Douglas Avenue, Glace Bay before relocating to Grand Lake Road,

Josie is survived by sons, Fabian and Kevin (Velvet) Glace Bay; by daughters, Bernadette (Sheldon), Birch Grove, Sharon, British Columbia and Brenda (Shawn), Glace Bay. She is also survived by grandchild­ren, Kim (Allan) Sullivan, Shauna Campbell, Jason Campbell, Mark (Tracey) O’Keefe, Tara O’Keefe, Ryan (Jacqueline) O’Keefe and Shelby Burke; nine great-grandchild­ren and four great-great-grandchild­ren, as well as a sister, Sis MacDonald, Glace Bay.

She was predecease­d by her husband, Bernie Burke; a granddaugh­ter, Diana Barkhouse; brothers, Robert (Buddy), Raymond and Naish Devison; sisters, Stashia Deveaux, Rita Emond, Marie Stashuk, and Annie and Evelyn Devison.

She will be sadly missed by her extended family at Seaview Manor, especially by her roommate and best friend, Blanche Brown.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, July 31 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, Main Street, Glace Bay. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, August 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Parish, Reserve Mines, with Fr. Boudreau officiatin­g. Interment will be at Forest Haven Cemetery.

Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Manor, Alzheimer’s Associatio­n or to a charity of one’s choice.
