It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara, on July 25, 2018 after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

She was the beloved wife of the late Wilfred Poirier and leaves behind her loving family; son, Joe Poirier Lexington, MA, USA; daughters, Ann Marie (Robert) LeLievre Cheticamp and Charlene (Daniel) MacKinnon Margaree Harbour; grandsons, Brendon, Ryan, Garrett and Keith; brothers, Raymond Hines and Paul (Susie) Hines; sisters, Rita Kavanaugh and Bernice (Malcolm) Cameron, all of New Waterford.

She was born and raised in New Waterford, then moved to Waltham, MA to work in electronics and started her family. She later moved back to Cape Breton and settled in Cheticamp to be closer to family. She worked at NDA School and was a member of CUPE until her retirement in 1996. Her family was the focus and pride of her life. Her favorite past-times included preparing meals for others, playing cards and reading. She will be remembered and greatly missed for her kindness and selflessness.

The family would like to thank the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre staff, including Home and Palliative Care staff for all their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Patient Care Fund or the Palliative Care Society North Inverness County.

There is no visitation. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 2 p.m., at St. Peter’s Church in Cheticamp, NS, with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. The burial will follow the Mass in the parish cemetery.
