We, the family of Vera Martha Kathlyn (MacDonald) Stapleton, regret to announce her passing on Saturday, July 28, 2018. Born March 23, 1960, in Petawawa, Ont., she was the daughter of Helga (Bürger) MacDonald and the late Chester A. MacDonald.

For over 35 years, Vera was a very active member of CID, Community Involvemen­t of the Disabled, where she served as president for three terms. She also volunteere­d as executive secretary for NSLEO, a position she held for four years. Vera volunteere­d with Crime Stoppers and was also a board member with the Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunit­ies, as well as the Society for the Improvemen­t of Accessible Transporta­tion. Anyone who knew or had the opportunit­y to meet and work with Vera, will attest to her kind, generous and thoughtful nature and her willingnes­s to do whatever she could to help others, as well as set an example.

Besides her mother, Vera is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Michael and brother, Roland (Bea).

She was predecease­d by her brother, Daniel; stepsister, Nancy Jean, and stepbrothe­r, Chester.

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, August 2 from 1-2 p.m., followed by a service in the chapel at 2 p.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiatin­g. Interment will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the SPCA or any charity in support of animals.
