Great time to visit farmers’ markets.

One of my favorite things to do during the summer is to take in the Farmers and Public Markets.

The markets are the best spots to find local gems with everything from hand crafted jewellery to home baked goods and fresh produce.

Whether the markets are public, artisans’ or farmers’ markets, they are the best spots to purchase from the local artisans and farmers. There is nothing that can compare to fresh from the ground vegetables and homemade preserves and specialty items such as German sausage. I also like to pick up some local baking since some of our best bakers attend these markets.

Richmond is fortunate to have three of these markets taking place. During August you will be able to find me checking out the Isle Madame Public Market at LeNoir Landing on the Arichat Waterfront. The market will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on August 4 and from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on August 19. In September the market will take place on September 1 and September 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on both days.

I always look forward to the Grand River Farmers Market which takes place at the Grand River Fire Hall. If you have never been there you still have time. These markets will run on August 4, August 18, September 1 and September 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is the perfect spot to browse and enjoy the hard work of many vendors as well as hearing some local entertainment and have something to eat at the bistro.

The Coastal Market in St. Peter’s takes place at the lower level of the St. Peter’s Marina. The market will run Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., through August and from September 2 to 15 but it will also operate on September 16 as part of the St. Peter’s Pirate Days. Here you will find beautiful artisans work from paintings to jewellery, as well as homemade soaps and preserves made by local crafters. To add to the fun there are usually a few buskers on site for a taste of local entertainment.

So if you are looking for something unique and locally made, make sure to check out these amazing markets. They can’t be beat and it helps the local economy. Hope to see you there.
