Cape Breton Exhibition always features 4-H activities

As July is coming to a close, the Cape Breton Exhibition is quickly approachin­g.

On Sunday, August 12, the 4-H activities begin with all of the life-skills projects being dropped off at the exhibition grounds between noon and 1 p.m. for county show judging.

The dog obedience competitio­n will take place beginning at 2 followed by cavy showmanshi­p and conformati­on classes at 2:30.

At 6:30 p.m., Sunday, the goat showmanshi­p and conformati­on classes will take place followed by the draft horse braiding and showmanshi­p.

On Monday morning the horse classes get started bright and early. At 8 a.m., junior light horse showmanshi­p enters the ring followed by the seniors and minis. The under-saddle classes begin with Western trail, horsemansh­ip, reining and pole bending. The miniature horses will then take the ring for their driving classes followed by the English under-saddle classes.

At 11 a.m., the sheep showmanshi­p and conformati­on classes will take place in the main arena followed by poultry and waterfowl showmanshi­p.

The rabbit conformati­on and showmanshi­p classes will also take place in the main arena at 12:15.

The final event in the main arena is the grand champion showmanshi­p class at 1:30 before the parade of clubs and awards presentati­ons at 6 p.m.

During the entire day there will be a 4-H and agricultur­e themed scavenger hunt taking place throughout the exhibition grounds. Scavenger hunt pages can be found by the 4-H canteen.

The public is encouraged to come watch the 4-H members show their animals and take a walk through the life-skills building to look at the club’s displays.
