A medical crisis that required emergency surgery in 2008 led Veronica Connors onto a new path in life.

The Humber Village, N.L., woman said that’s when things really started to change for her.

“When I came home I had almost like an epiphany. It’s time to start living my life for me, for my purpose, sharing what I know.”

While staying at home to raise her three children, she started to take an interest in spiritual life coaching.

So, Connors, who had previously been a teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing, decided she wanted to share some of her experience and knowledge to help others.

“As a teacher, I really believe that I am a spiritual teacher. That is who I am at the core.”

Her plan was to write a book, but she wasn’t about to do it alone.

Connors had spent a couple of years working with the former Burin Peninsula School Board in Marystown, N.L., and while there met Natalie Finlay and Florence Strang.

The friendship, with a strong mutual interest in spirituality, continued after she left Marystown.

Their recently released book, “Soul Steps: 52 Ways to Reconnect with Spirit,” is a practical approach to spirituality.

Each chapter has a story, some are personal, some are about friends and some are about clients the three women have encountered over the years.

At the end of each chapter is a full workbook section complete with tools, questions, ways that guide a person to practice the emotional, mental and spiritual tool talked about.

With Finlay now in Grand Falls-Windsor, N.L., and Strang in St. John’s, N.L., it took the women 10 years to complete the book.

Connors said they would have intense periods of writing and then go away from it for a time as life took them in other directions.

One of those directions for Connors was to start training as a spiritual life coach in 2009.

Eventually, they would go back to the book with all individually adding what they had experienced and learned.

Now that it’s complete, she’s proud of the book and in awe that they actually did it.

She’s also thinks it will help people. “In a way, it’s a beginning, but in another way, it’s a completion for the three of us.”
