Come ’ome to Burlington

What could be better than good food and great music? Newfoundlanders know — it’s good food and great music among friends. And the best place to find these is at The Gathering: Fire, Food and Music festival — where people are welcomed ’ome.

This truly unique event features the best of Newfoundland’s cuisine and culture, including 13 musicians and bands such as George Canyon, Newfoundland the Band, The Once, Strewn, Rachel Cousins and many other favourites on The Rock. And when it comes to the food, visitors will not be disappointed. But be prepared to work a little for your dinner.

Part of the charm of the three-day event is its location.

It’s definitely not for the faint of heart. It’s a moderately difficult hike over uneven terrain so if you aren’t physically fit or have health problems, this probably isn’t the event for you. But if you are a true nature-lover at heart, and you are looking for a challenge, the Gathering is a must-do experience. With only one road in, and one road out, the good news is you won’t get lost. From St John’s, it’s about a three-and-a-half-hour drive. From Gander, you are looking at a three-hour trip and from Corner Brook, it is about two-and-a-half hours. But it’s something you won’t soon forget.

Apart from the out-standing music, visitors this year will get to experience the cuisine of Chefs Charles Part and wife, Jennifer Warren-Part, co-owners of the award-winning Chelsea, QC Restaurant Les Fougères.

Jonathan Gushue will also bring his outstanding culinary style and inventiveness to The Gathering. Gushue, a native Newfoundlander, is celebrated across Canada, England, France, and Japan for his unparalleled brand of cultural fare.As the executive chef of Fogo Island Inn, he is well prepared to deliver an unforgettable meal in the wilderness.

AS for where you will stay when you arrive, The Gathering is well known as one of the most fun camping festivals on the island. You can bring your RV or why not experience the outdoors in a tent in Tent City. Whatever you decide, you will be guaranteed an experience of a lifetime.

This year’s much-anticipated event takes place Aug.23 to 25. Tickets for The Gathering: Fire, Food and Music festival, are available through their website at: www.thegatheringburlington.com.
