MARTELL, Calvin (Coach) Bernard

-

It is with great sadness in my heart as I sit here thinking of all the memories we’ve made over the years that I have to announce the passing of our dad, Cal Martell. To all of us he was a great dad who provided for our mom and the five of us and many others who call our house home. Dad was a salesman for multiple Pharmaceutical Companies over the years.

Calvin was husband to the late Carolyn Marie (Nolan) Martell and father to Terry, Kevin (Tony), Michael, Adrian (Helen), and Anita (Ian) McVicar. He was grandfather to Taya (Chad), Kyle (Courtney), Colin, and Sean (Holly) and great-grandfather to Anson, Caelin, Layla, Carly, Payton, Georgia, and Carson.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Rita (MacNeil) Martell; his father and mother-in-law, Basil and Emma (Toots) Nolan; and his brother, Nelson Martell.

He is survived by his siblings, Estelle (Stan) Reppa, Adrian (Joan) Martell,Anne (Julie) Mac Neil, and Rita (Robert) Marshall; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dad was a very active member of the Kinsmen Clubs of Sydney and Cheticamp, he was active in Cape Breton County Minor Hockey as referee chief, he was a coach in hockey and baseball and in the later years of their lives lived in Cheticamp, where he and mom ran the Brigadoon Restaurant until he retired, where he made many lifelong friends which he was very thankful for. After moms passing dad moved back to Sydney where he spent his time with his family and made more new friends. Dad will be greatly missed.

There will be a celebration of life at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, on Friday, August 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating, reception to follow to share memories and stories.
