Talking about farming
Event allows members to speak about agricultural issues
The Young Speakers for Agriculture competition is held each year at the Nova Scotia Provincial 4-H Show.
The competition includes a five to seven-minute prepared speech about agriculture from the topics provided each year. The competitors must also introduce and thank another speaker.
The winner of the competition will win a trip to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto on November 3, 2018 where they will compete with their speech at the national level. To be eligible to compete members must be between the ages of 16-24 and be a current 4-H member or have been involved in the program for at least 2 years. The speeches can be delivered in either French or English. To register, please contact 4-H Nova Scotia with the following information - name, address, birth date, and 4-H connection - by September 15.
The 2018 Young Speakers for Agriculture topics are:
• Canadian Agriculture needs more people – and this is how we’re going to get them,
• What is sustainability and why does it matter to Canadian agriculture?
• The next big thing in agriculture is ….
• How can we educate urban populations about where our food comes from and the industry standards involved?
• Food Processing: Trends and Market Opportunities
• Local Opportunities for Micro Food Processing.
•Once a member has won the Nova Scotia Young Speakers for Agriculture Competition, they are not allowed to compete again.
