Soldiers Cove

With heavy hearts, we regret to announce the sudden passing of Leo Joseph ‘Snapper’ MacDonald 62, of Soldiers Cove. Leo was born on May 24, 1956 in Soldiers Cove and was the son of Margaret ‘Peggy’ Collet and the late Edmond Collet.

Leo was a well-known automotive and heavy-duty mechanic, who serviced the surroundin­g communitie­s, providing the most accommodat­ing and generous service that anyone could ask for out of his own shop for over 37 years.

After graduation, Leo spent his earlier years with his uncle in the mine in Revelstoke B.C., he also worked at Chrysler in Sydney and owned and managed the Ultramar in St. Peters, he later worked at the bus garage and was recently employed with Hertz Rental and Equipment in Fort McMurray for the last 5 years; in his days off he worked at the shop.

Leo was predecease­d by his loving wife, Colleen, and his loving godmother, Agnes. He is survived by his mother, Margaret ‘Peggy’ Collet, and his five loving children, Josh (Cassandra), Irish Cove, Matt (Paula), River Bourgeois, Devan, St. Peters, Brett (Sam) Chapel Island and Tasha, Soldiers Cove; brothers, Angus, Francis, Willie Joe (Joy), all of Soldiers Cove, Mike (Terri), Sydney River; sisters, Mary Lizzie, Barra Head, Juliana (Wayne) and Madonna, both of Soldiers Cove. He will be missed by his cherished grandchild­ren, Ben, Ella, Piper, River and Isla, who were his absolute pride and joy, that kept him going and on his toes, they will miss him dearly. Also left to mourn are his aunts, uncles, extended family, many friends and long-time companion, Loretta.

Resting in the River Bourgeois Visitation Parlor on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Barra Head with Rev. Duncan MacIsaac presiding. Following the Mass there will be a gathering at the family residence in Soldiers Cove.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Green’s Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
