It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eileen Theresa (MacNeil) Lovett, age 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmothe­r, sister, aunt and friend, on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the Northside Community Guest Home.

Eileen was born in Bras d’Or on April 5, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Nathan and Theresa (Boutilier) MacNeil. Eileen graduated in 1950 as a Registered Nurse from Hamilton Memorial Hospital. Soon after, she left for New York City to work at the polio clinic located there. She returned to Bras d’Or at age 28 and met the love of her life, Keith, at a dance at the Northern Yacht Club and the couple married a year later. Eileen spent the majority of her married life in Kitchener-Waterloo and made many dear friends before returning once again, to Bras d’Or, where she and Keith retired to their little piece of heaven overlookin­g the lake.

Eileen is fondly remembered as a kind hearted and fun-loving woman with a colourful sense of humour, a quick wit and a personalit­y that would light up a room. She was a warm and charming woman whose loving and generous spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Eileen is survived by her cherished daughter, Leanne (Michael) Arnold, Waterloo, ON; by her loving grandchild­ren, whom she adored, Meredith Arnold, who has followed in her grandmothe­r’s footsteps as an RN and Jacob Arnold, who his pursuing his pilots degree. Eileen adored her husband and family and devoted her life to them. She is also survived by her brothers, Sidney MacNeil, Freeman (Doreen) MacNeil; her sister, Joan (Allison) Young; nephews and nieces, Blair, Chuck, Theresa, Glen Howard, Kelly and Brenda, and sisterin-law, Germaine MacNeil. Also left behind is Eileen’s good friend Anita Schabl, Waterloo, ON.

Eileen was predecease­d by her husband, Keith Lovett in February 2018; her parents and brother, Howard; sister-in-law, Dorothy, and niece, Arlene MacNeil.

Special thanks to our family’s dear friend, our angel, Dee for taking such magnificen­t care of my mother and giving us peace when we were away from her.

Visitation for Eileen will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 5 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018 at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Rev. Peter McLeod officiatin­g. A reception will follow in the Bras d’Or Community Hall. Burial to take place in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
