Anyone hoping a bit more fun and social time is in the cards for them might want to check out St. Anne’s Church on Main Street in Glace Bay Tuesday evenings.

Mary Stevens, one of the organizers of the St. Anne’s CWL Bridge Club, said their games are starting up again for the new season Tuesday, Sept. 11.

To help more people get the chance to get involved, Stevens there will be basic bridge lessons as well as tarabish lessons provided on Tuesday’s before their weekly game gets underway.

Stevens will be providing the bridge lessons and another volunteer will be on hand to teach tarabish.

“I can teach them the basics and then tell them what books they could buy to go home and read and learn more.”

The lessons will begin at 6 p.m. The time for the regular games has changed, with the regular games now beginning at 7 p.m.

Stevens said those taking lessons will be welcome to join the regular games if they wish or they can simply watch.

“If they want to stay around after the lessons and play we’ll have a director there to assist,” she added.

There is a lunch served during the evening.

Stevens, who has been playing bridge more than 50 years, is hoping more people will come this year and give it a try.

“Bridge is good for the brain,” she said.

“Every retiree should be out learning that game or even Tarabish.”

However Stevens said mostly it’s just a lot of fun to play.

“It’s the most addictive game I’ve ever played outside of golf,” she said.

“Everyone there will say the same thing, about how addictive it is. It doesn’t matter if it storms out we’ll find a way to get there. If people would come out and try it they will get addicted to it.” Admission is $5. Anyone wishing more information can contact Mary Stevens at 902-849-8456.
